O Lecturer (a poem)

O Lecturer,
How you stand at your lectern,
Jowls wobbling,
Voice stuttering.
You are like a wooden puppet;
Your chin droops loosely.

Do you not know
Tis a Monday morning?
Students in their seats,
We all doze off.

Why can you not talk
In
Continuous prose
And
*cough*
Stop

With the long silence...

Every time you say something?

Fellow undergraduates,
Academi (that's probably fictional Latin)
How can we make notes
If our lecturer cannot speak well
Publicly?

My friends:
We are in a quandary.

Obese patients 'increasing back pain among nurses' - Indie
By Karl Mansfield
Published: 02 April 2007

A rise in the number of obese patients on wards could be causing thousands of NHS nurses to seek treatment for back pain, according to experts.

About 5,000 nurses are currently being treated for back pain following a surge in patients' weights and the number of patients a nurse has to care for, according to the British Chiropractic Association.

Dr Matthew Bennett, a member of the BCA who has been a chiropractor for 20 years, said: "There are thousands of nurses with work-related back pain and I think this could increase in the future.

"A lot do not turn up in official statistics because it affects employment status.

"The weight of patients is a contributory factor to back pain. It's not just a weight issue - it's a fitness issue with people unable to turn themselves over easily."

Dr Tim Hutchful, another BCA chiropractor who has been practising 18 years, said: "I think the number of nurses with back pain will probably increase in the future as people get bigger.

Unions also say workloads and a rise in patients' weight are impacting heavily on the health of NHS staff.

Barrie Brown, Amicus' Lead Officer for Nursing, said: "We are aware of this as an extensive problem because muscular skeletal problems are the biggest reason for people retiring on grounds of ill health from the NHS."

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health said: "The department advises that staff should avoid manual handling. No one working in a hospital, nursing home, or community setting should need to put their safety at risk when lifting patients manually. Manual handling of patients should only continue if it does not involve a risk of injury from lifting most or all of a patient's weight."

Blair: I'll be treading the boards again - Observer
Prime Minister agrees to take role in The Crucible after an approach from his friend Kevin Spacey

Pahli Tarikh
Sunday April 1, 2007
The Observer

Tony Blair has agreed to resurrect his interest in acting when he leaves Number 10 after he was approached about a major stage role by his close friend, the artistic director of the Old Vic, Kevin Spacey, The Observer can reveal.

With speculation growing over the exact date of his departure from Downing Street and how he will handle life as an ex-Prime Minister, Blair appears to have taken Gordon Brown and his closest Westminster friends by surprise with the plan to star in an autumn production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. It is likely to be a sell-out.

Article continues
A proof copy of the theatre programme, obtained by The Observer and likely to become a collector's item, contains a cast list showing Tony Blair's name against the part of Reverend John Hale. Miller's classic play is ostensibly based on the 17th-century Salem witch trials and warns of the dangers of religious fundamentalism. Reverend Hale is a renowned expert on witchcraft and proves a noble character.

Kevin Spacey told The Observer: 'We're always looking out for talent in unexpected places. When I first approached Tony at the Labour conference he just laughed. Then he looked at me and said: "Seriously?"

'Tony is taking this role to heart as much as any big political speech. His skills in oratory and his ability to command an audience are well known, but he would be the first to admit that acting involves a lot more. He's going through some intensive sessions with our acting coach and we're confident that he'll be ready for the first night. I'm pretty excited about it.'

The Prime Minister, whose father-in-law, Tony Booth, is an actor, showed an early interest in drama at Fettes College where he played the role of Stanhope in RC Sheriff's First World War drama Journey's End. He has since had a bit part in a Russian soap opera, voiced a cartoon version of himself welcoming The Simpsons to Britain and appeared in a sketch with Catherine Tate for last month's Comic Relief, his deadpan delivery of the line 'Am I bovvered?' winning plaudits from the viewers and BBC executives.

As a result he is believed to have received numerous offers to send himself up in the finale of Ricky Gervais's Extras, a new Only Fools and Horses Christmas special and a proposed Doctor Who storyline in which a Prime Minister goes back in time to correct his past mistakes.

But according to a Downing Street source, Blair is determined to be taken seriously. 'The PM has always been a good actor but wants to show he's more flexible than a two-minute "Look, I'm Tony Blair" cameo played for laughs,' an insider said.

'When he puts his mind to something he's determined to master every detail, every skill and emotion. I think Al Gore's Oscar [for the documentary An Inconvenient Truth] has shown him there is life after politics.'

Blair's rapport with Spacey was evident when they appeared together on Michael Parkinson's television chat show last year, where the host told Blair: 'At your school... you were called the best actor of your generation.'

It is not known how Blair's wife Cherie has reacted to his new choice of career but the Prime Minister is said to be already running through his lines with his former director of communications, Alastair Campbell.

Some MPs have, however, expressed concern. One senior cabinet minister, who did not wish to be named, said: 'An ambassador arrived at Number 10 the other day to find Tony dressed like a Puritan, waving a crucifix in the air and shouting about chasing out the devil. Fortunately the ambassador had studied The Crucible at UCL.'

"As I Sit Here In Front of my PC" - diary entry / love story from circa 18/05/2002

If I wrote this when I was 15/16, I have to be some kind of literary genius by now!
Enjoy.

As I sit here in front of my PC, I realise that life can be a struggle sometimes. After I awoke this morning at around the time of 12 o clock, I realise how much of the day that I’ve already missed. As I sit in my bed watching Saturday morning TV I hear the shrieking call of “David! David!” from my mother.

“What?” I say.

Realising my door is closed and Mum can’t hear me, I decide to walk over to the doorway and walk out to the landing.

“What is it?” I say, speaking over the banister.

“We’re going to Hounslow!”

Realising my chance to perhaps buy something, I ask why, careless that my hair is in a bad state and I’m still in my PJs with my breath stinking.

“We’re gonna go and see some cars [in mind we might buy one]”

“Really?” I say, “Can I request a CD player, air conditioning, electric windows, ABS breaks…” I keep on stating more car features “When you going?” I ask after I finished my requests.

“NOW!” comes the reply.

Too late, I say to myself, I might as well stay at home. Walking back to my bed remains a struggle, as my feet are hurting from too much football the previous day, the worst injury being a painful split in my skin on my big toe and I gotta be in good condition for athletics on Monday.

Struggling to find something to keep me entertained (or even keep my sanity!) I decide to try the Internet for company but no one’s on Messenger. Oh well. So I decide to put some clothes away, which I did (or I just left a pile of clothes on my family members’ beds) and to my shock horror I find fluff on my PE shorts! I try to pick it off with my fingers, only to find its some spider web! Disgusting! To think I’m gonna be wearing those quite a lot this week (I’m doing after-school activities).

Once all they were done I thought of having a shower to get rid of the gel in my hair from yesterday.

-I had a shower-

I go up to my room to get changed pulling any old thing on, leaving one foot (the ‘injured’ one without a sock) and walk downstairs feeling like Diddle Diddle Dumpling!

On my return I realise how hungry I am and that I haven’t eaten yet (may I remind you, the house is still empty), so I scramble through the cupboards finding nothing that interested my appetite. It was time for a last resort: toast and tea!

You see, this is the struggle; I’m terrible at being left alone coz I can’t cook! Ah, well, life will be a struggle, but I’m not worried because I’m gonna learn! Hah! Imagine me feeding my family beans on toast! Makes you laugh doesn’t it?

But the real struggle that affects us all is love! Why do I say that? Because not everyone in this world is beautiful and sometimes we’re unfortunate enough to get the ugly ones coming up to us!

This is the story of yesterday, while I was playing football, the day I hurt my foot. I’m not saying this story to be so ‘full of myself,’ I’m saying it for comedy value, so don’t think that I think that I’m some kind of woman magnet coz that’s not true! I’m also emphasising some parts for comedy value, so don’t consider big-headedness

KNOCK KNOCK!

Someone’s at the door. Its some kids from down the road wanting to play some footy

“Is Conor [my brother] there?”

“Yes he is,” Mum replies, “You gonna play football?”

“Yeah,” Tom, one of the boys replies in his gruff year 6 voice.

My brother approaches.

“David, are you going as well?” Mum asks (I think she was eager to get me out of the house, to be honest!)

I agree of course coz there isn’t much else to do at home, apart from graphics, which quite simply DRAWS THE LINE!

I go upstairs and out some clothes on and have a quick glance in the mirror (I’m seeing what my little scratch on my nose looks like, achieved by heading a football with my glasses on, stupidly enough!)

Pretty satisfied with my appearance I head for the door and we all leave for Whitton Playing Fields!

Tom, being the arse that he is, bounces the ball which, incidentally bounces on to the road, and risking life and limb, I scoop the ball away, just before a car hits me!

On to the playing fields, where we start playing football. I slip my glasses into my case for protection so the world suddenly goes a little blurry.

“Hey, David! My main man!”

It’s Robert from my sister’s school! (Funny chap!)

He joins in.

Looking around, the field is quite empty, apart from some little kids playing with a soft football

The game goes down great, I scored some rather flash goals and we all have a laugh!

Some silhouetted figures are approaching from the other side of the field.

They stop near us. What are they saying? Are they gonna ask for money, or steal our phones (I didn’t have one on me at the time)? We continue, their presence not bothering me anyway.

“Hey Tom! Remember me?” it turns out one of those figures was a girl (remember I can’t see much detail without my specs on) “Oi!” she says in her cockney-esque accent “you wanna play a match? Us verses you lot!”

Oh god! I think to myself, we’re probably gonna be thrashed!

“OK” Robert agrees, “Come on David!”

GAME ON! We start…

Running rather athletically up the field to go in for a cross, I hear:

“Hey! What’s your name? David, init?”

I listen to her, my senses alive with passion, my heart racing just that little bit faster! She’s interested in me! Holding my shoulders back, my head up and my stomach in, hoping she cant see the spots that seem to always be able to creep onto my face, I turn around to see her in ALL HER GLORY!!

Oh…

“What year you in? Don’t worry, lemme guess? Year 10?”

“Yeah”

“How did I know? WOW I must be psychic! God I’m good! How did I know that? What school you go to? It’s not Whitton is it?”

“No, St Paul’s”

“You’re a good footballer aren’t you?”

DAMN SHE’S MINGING!

Trying to put her off, I say I’m not that good.

“What are you talking about!” she says (touching my arm). I back off

“Yeah, whatever!” I say. A feeling of nausea comes over me and I run off to take part in the match.

Soon enough it was all over, we had won and they had to go home.

“Come on you fat bitch!” yells the minger’s brother “stop chatting up that boy!”

Ugh! Chatting up. That’s when the truth hits me.

They walked off to go to their cheap little houses.

“See you around, David” the girl shouts.

Hope I never see you again I say under my breath.

Terrible, don’t you think? It’s probably happened to you. Thank the stars my sister wasn’t around or she would have told Mum, then I’d have a dilemma on my hands!

Anyways, enough of all that. I hope you enjoyed this tragic story, or it brightened you up, even if it is a little long and goes on!

REMEMBER:

You’re not the only person in the world who has problems, you’re always gonna share them with some one somewhere else in the word. This one just so happens to be mine!

ALSO!

Love doesn’t always end in happiness. Thank god this one never started!

Narrow escape as glass pane falls from Leicester Square window

You heard it here first.

3.35pm
While the publice were happily distracted by the filming of a new BBC comedy being filmed in the centre of the square, people's concentration was broken by the sound of a loud crash from the opposite end.
While most of the square is mostly a pedestrian zone, the idea of a car crash seems impossible around the West End.

Following the direction of the crash revealed a glass pane had fallen from about the third floor window above Burger King to the ground below, where customers walk in and out.

Amazingly, noone was hurt in the freak accident. All that remains is the mangled glass frame on the ground and a perimeter of shattered glass.
Dazzled office workers stared outside from their desks.

Witnesses said they saw the glass pane as it fell to the ground. An off-duty BBC cameraman captured some of the scene after it had happened on film.
A first aid worker on the scene said there were no casualties.

So this is how it is... life update

Man, you can really lose touch with bloggin' can'tcha?
I like to feel I've been a busy boy, but that's not the best truth to it. Its really just the heat England's experiencing.

Let's see. Forgive any errors, drinking the last of the fridge's beers. Just bullet pointing my life for the sake of remembering later:

  • The World Cup is over (forza Italia!). Penalties in any final is dramatic, so watching it was siccck!
  • I did a string of assemblies at Magna Carta School for next year's dance classes. Waking up at 6am to get an eeeaarllyyy bus to Egham. It's not good. But I'm hardcore. Gotta keep up appearances
  • Also took a dance class all by myself at another school. Daunting, tiring, but I did it. Would never do it again... well, maybe, for the rush you get, but not too often
  • Uh, more dance, with the English Eurovision entry, going over the dance routine. GET BACK UP!
  • Went and saw the Urdang first and second year show. What a densly populated hottie place to be. I witnessed the most beautiful girls one will ever see in their life. Then went Leicester Square and got into a club free, where the Urdang students took over most of the club.
  • Got a night bus back to Kingston from London (with Matt). A fella got on a 285 from Kingston bus station and threatened people on the bus (sat down in his seat, might I add, but still made verbal threats to kill people), which I completely ignored. He called people who got on the bus at the next busstops "battymans" and I had to bite my finger I was laughing so hard! He must have been on drugs or something. Got off at Sainsbury's and the fucker began to follow us. Through some fields! "Where are you taking mee?" he groans. He had a bag with him, and it was 5am, so we figured it was best to run and take a shortcut, not knowing what he might be carrying (syringes, knives, etc). Fucker.
  • Did a 2hr UDS class later on that same day/morning. Went home and collapsed.

NOW I've an empty house.
Ma familia have gone on holiday, and left me to look after the house. Not that I'm bitter. I have it all here, a full fridge, widescreen TV, DVDs, Gamecube hookup. I just have owt to do, and it gets extremely boring. There's only so much time you can sit in front of a PC before it gets tremendously shit.

Which is why I shall leave my life update here.

The ART of writing letters... in return for FREE stuff!

Yes indeed, there is a lot to learn from the art of letter writing!
So i found out this morning when i received a package, hand addressed from Durex!

The postman had to knock coz the parcel wouldnt fit through the letterbox- inside were TWO boxes of condoms, completely free!! (A 12-pack of Tingles- so kind!) First class, dated yesterday (10th) - how's that for customer care??

And inside, a letter addressed personally to me- oh how i love being audacious with my letters!

Here's what I wrote in the letter to Durex - it was a reasonable concern, but the rewards (30 free rubbers) are great!

Enjoy:

To whom it may concern at Durex,

It has recently come to my attention, with the help of the Durex UK website that there may be numbers of counterfeit condoms in circulation. Although the website information gives details on how to recognise what may be faulty goods, there are still a few subtle differences in packaging which would still draw some attention from me.
This is probably needless worry, due to Durex condoms being manufactured in countries other than UK. However, upon close inspection, I note 2 immediate differences:

The sealing of the condom: either diagonal or square crimped; I find the squared more susceptible to leaking after discovering lube of one (Select) staining some paper I had next to it in my wallet.

Second is the way date/batch details are printed, both on the box and on the condom wrapping, as the codes for these can also differ. Enclosed are a few examples of what I mean.

May I also add I buy my condoms from the same Boots store almost every time.
Therefore, one would assume the supply would be from the same origin, even if certain packaging traits appear different.

Yet once a company or product becomes successful, others may try cashing in with cheap counterfeit products.

Using the enclosed samples and date/batch number flaps, is it possible to trace their origin, or even tell a condom's authenticity by how its sealed in its packet?

Or perhaps there is no difference at all? I am hoping you can clear this up for me.

If you would like this letter typed up properly for the record, I have no problem in doing that for you, just contact me by my address given.

Many thanks,

David

PS: I hope its not too much to ask, but perhaps you could replace the condoms I sent? I had to buy a few packets in order to find the particular samples I was looking for! Thank you.

Hey it worked for me!! And I'll probably frame the letter too. I've always wanted something official from Durex, you know??
It was just a short 'case-study' of their products, pointing out a few things and receiving generous 'compesation' from them. And I'll do it again. Not only with Durex, but with other companies too lol.

Take note, playaz. Oh, and its also good to make up a few lies too. The above isnt all the gospel thruth lol

Sittin by the Thames with the breeze blowing...

Has to be the coldest breeze yet though.
I'm sat here coz I missed my bus. The sun is giving off a radiant glow, only the wind detracts most of its heat leaving me numb to the bone!

Wet what I see before me is actually something almost like what you'd see on a romantic postcard:
Boats moored against the opposite bank (ok?)
Ducks desperately fighting the wind and current (sure, ducks are romantic!)
And lovers smooching on one of the benches along the river!

Yes indeed, the allure of the riverside never seems to fail! No wonder acclaimed artists have painted scenes lie what I see now. A sure-fire location for my 'places-to-do-it' list!

Look at the attached photo to see a reproduction of what I can see this fine autumn afternoon. Almost, apart from the overly-white exposure...

Roald Dahl did adult stories too??

Not sure why I act so shocked, after all, any adult can pick up Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and give it a good browse. But I mean, I never thought Dahl would be writing stories with the addition of sex in them.

Not from him.

If you're into good post-war literature, PICK UP THIS BOOK AND READ IT!! I'm amazed and surprised at how Dahl adds a twist to each of the short stories! In particular "The Visitor" Dahl's storytelling at its best, and you wont find it in the kiddy section!!

A rhyme written during a boring lecture

Its not my fault i already know most of the stuff they're trying to teach

I wrote this at my own accord
In my lecture coz I am bored.
They send me here in rain or snow
To teach me shit I already know!

I'm coming here to waste my time
(Dude beside me's drinking Coke 'lime')
Our teacher needs to get with times
We know this info from online.

"Vectors made of different layers"
I want to play my CD player.
I don't care for resolutions,
I'd rather leave this institution.

It does nothing but bore me,
I'll only learn if the teacher floors me!

Got 'women' on the go

If books were women, I mean. I'm speaking metaphorically for those who haven't clicked.

So metaphorically speaking, I've had three 'women' on the go for several months.

It started at Christmas time when I picked up a thriller of a women, quite novel, she gave me a first person perspective but I never knew she was a spy novel...

Next was a chunky girl called 'Redwall'. She was too childish though and full of riddles. Not only that, she was way overdue. So she's been on the side for a while.

Then I found a compact hardback by the name of 'Fahrenheit 451.' She was hot, and it didn't just show through her name. She had me burning til the end. Just the right size, fit right in the palm of my hand, I loved her in and out of context.
But earlier today she ended it with me. 158 pages down the line it was all over. I'm sad, it ended so abruptly, but I'm happy someone else will pick her up at the library some day...

I live on, another page turns. I'll be going back to my other women later;)

Big Pun- YEEEAH BABY!!

Ya man... here's something to read while I've nothing to blog about... sometimes i could do these things all day, buy HEY, just filling a gap in the Innanet somewhere...

This one's going out to Dipset Stefan, if you read this then HOLLA !!

1. Creation (Intro)

Along the lines of Frankenstein's creation, where Pun is created from parts of other artists. Eddie Murpy being part of him gotta be the funniest part though!

2. Watch Those Prod. by Knobody

Good first track. Uses the Starsky and Hutch theme tune. To good effect as well. About those who act shady and to be aware of them. Good use of electric guitar loops.

3. Off Wit His Head ft Prospect Prod. by Just Blaze

Would i expect any less from a Just Blaze production? Dueting with Prospect, this makes a tight combination. The only down side is each verse is only four bars long and you hear the chorus many many times throughout. It's still tight though, just a little repetetive.

4. It's So Hard ft Donell Jones Prod. by Younglord

Piano driven beat. Simple, but i love it. Jumpy feel to it. Pun flows over it perfectly. Pun is talking about his fame and recognition. Donell Jones also supplies a nice hook too

5. We Don't Care ft Cuban Link Prod. by Younglord

Its such a shame this track is only 2 verses long. Pun really goes off on this one with his lyrical flow. Pun's best flow performance on the CD is on this track. Its a dark and traumatic beat. Going out to tell others about the Terror Squad.

6. New York Giants ft M.O.P. Minnesota

I'm not too big a fan of M.O.P. coz i feel they shout too much! However they're relegated to only one verse between them and the hook! The beat is horn driven, it reminds me of a background beat Tim Westwood would use on his radio shows! Tight beat. Bad choice of guest appearance.

7. My Dick ft Tony Sunshine Prod. by KNS and Guy Boogie

Love the hook! Just have to mention the hook! Something to sing to yourself when people keep getting at you Tony Sunshine has a good one-and-a-half long verse, but that's no bad thing coz he's a nice singer, although i think this is more of a Sunshine than a Pun one. Nice and laid back though despite the song content, and its good to chill to.

8. Leatherface Prod. by Mike Trauma D and Jugrnaut

Another electric guitar driven track. It seems by now that Pun is a fan of decapitating people! It's not really that good i don't think, i think its just average to me compared to "Off With His Head" (same concept, right?) although the distress samples do at to the buildup in the bridge. Average, i say.

9. Air Pun (Skit)

LOL. Only the lead into the next song so it's a bit pointless. Pun is asleep on an aeroplane. I find that a strange scenario, coz Fat Joe isnt allowed to fly because of his weight, so how is Pun on a plane?! Hell, its just a skit! Funny when Pun farts though... always gets me!

10. 100% ft Tony Sunshine Prod. by Sean Cane

The hook is all in Latino so i don't understand it. While i mention the hook, the sound sample appears to be quite muffled when it plays. I don't think it was equalised very well. That doesn't mean i don't like the song. Got a real Latino vibe to it and makes you want to jump to it. Pun is talking about putting his all into the rapping effort and doing it all to be the number one.

11. Wrong Ones ft Sunkiss Prod. by Just Blaze

Not a 5/5 Blaze beat (nice bass throb with drums) but Pun manages to tear it up. His performance is on the level of what he spits on "We Don't Care" Sunkiss also delivers a slick verse on his behalf, but is outdone by Pun.

12. Laughing at You ft Tony Sunshine Prod. by Ogee

You can't knock the mocking tone of this song. Has a real holler at those who denied Pun anything as he was growing up and how he's completely overcome those who thought they were bigger than him yet look what he got now?! Those with a wide music interest will recognise the "Don't You (Forget About Me)" interpolated hook too. HA HA HA! Adds to how you may relate to the song. Deep. And i like it, although it isn't too special if you don't feel you've never been in Pun's place.

13. N*gga Shit Prod. by Buckwild

Poetry on wax really. Boring if you ask me, just repetition of the first line over and over about the stereotypical black culture set to a piano loop. You'll skip it after you heard it a few too many times.

14. Ms. Martin ft Remi Martin Prod. by DJ Shok

I'm not too big a fan of the Ruff Riderz productions or rappers. Too much emcee-based rapping but leaving them with boring beats (not particularly the RAW type either) Pun's hook is dire. The most annoying you'd ever hear Pun at I'm afraid. Skip it coz Remi gets the whole song and gets boring.

15. My Turn Prod. by L.E.S.

Dark feel to a piano-tinkling and cymbol beat. It's a bit boring however. Feels too slow and very depressing and lonely. Below average. Also note that Pun said it features Tony Sunshine but he doesn't appear on the track. Its a posthumous mix and a badly done job too

16. You Was Wrong ft Drag On, Fat Joe and Remi Martin Prod. by DJ Shok

Another below-par DJ Shok production. Too boring with the beat making. All the verses feel average too. Pity.

My copy of the CD came witha Sony "Urban Classics" sticker attached to it, which is a shame because it shows that it shifted a good few and Pun wasn't even around to witness it blowing up.
I had to listen to this twice before writing the review because i wanted to get into the mood of the CD then compare it to Capital Punishment.

I like this CD. Its no Capital Punishment so it doesn't mean i'll be running out to tell all my friends about it like i did with his first but it's still dope and does sort of grow on you.
Lyrically Pun is a Latino rhyme-god and the majority of the beats are on point too, just why Pun felt he had to link up with the likes of Remi Martin and DJ Shok productions i wont know why because at about the point you hear the first Ruff Rider track the CD becomes a turn off. I guess this is the trouble with posthumous releases.

I feel they did a good job with it but messed up some appearances and productions and even just put a few boring Pun cuts in from left over material
