Skint
BBC1, Tuesday nights.
Is it exploitation from the BBC about lower demographs? Or filler TV? Or public service, like what the BBC stands for?
Dave (a fantastic namesake!) works at Cash Converters. Every week, his regular, Andy comes in to trade his possessions to pay off his debt and feed his girlfriend's drink habit.
That's nice. We get a sense of BBC's midday documentary filler TV, albeit with a little more swearing. Cameras follow Andy walking out with a small cash payment and a smile on his face.
Same scenario, different people (a different side-story every week).
The next shot cuts to Dave, who knows these poor people's backgrounds and re-tells them to the camera, before offering his opinion on them. Prettymuch has a good old bitch, actually!
I don't disagree with watching this late-night television, it's quite relaxing to watch before bed, only giving Dave the allowance to voice his opinion on camera with a few obvious editing lapses to get to the point, Skint takes it to the point where it almost tries to make the audience laugh at their subjects. You almost hope the documentary makers are giving them a small fee to follow them around their private lives.
Next time, Andy ends up grovelling to his girlfriend, who has a restraining order on her for assaulting him.
Gripping, if not a little unethical to watch.
